Coolsingel Hospital gate The Coolsingel gate on the Lijnbaan in Rotterdam was the back gate of the former Coolsingel Hospital.
Ambulances drove in and out through the gate at the former Crispijnlaan. The hospital was destroyed during the bombardment of Rotterdam in May 1940, leaving some outer walls and the gate standing. In 1949 the construction of the Lijnbaan pedestrian street started. At its opening in 1953, this street ran into the walls of the hospital.

In 1963, the walls were demolished so that Lijnbaan could be extended to Binnenweg. The gate and a now enormous plane tree stand on what is popularly known as Lijnbaanplein; they are the only remaining remnants of the hospital.

In 2006, there were plans to donate the gate to the Erasmus Medical Centre so that it could be given a place in the new building. The Historisch Genootschap Roterodamum managed to persuade local politicians to stop this plan so that the memory of the Coolsingel hospital would remain. A similar discussion took place in 2015. The new Coolsingel Hospital in Rotterdam, which opened its doors in 1851, appears to be modern: there is expressly for paying patients. Depending on the amount they can expect more or less care; the class system is invented. By the way, this is not the first hospital founded by the government.
