* a lot of decorative borders in printmedia and also in personal albums
* beige old newspaper tones and muted bright colours / orange red blue and white would be obvious options in a color palette
* blue and pink backdrop are (if i remember correctly) from matchbook prints. The texture of this grainy effect is nice and looks old and more vintage.
Texture used as a overlay for the map tests.

First draft of the map
White line is the route, to be included is the central station direction and part of the noordereiland.
To save space, possibly a infographic / explaination / legenda can be placed. Or perhaps a more alternative shape.
Shape options for the map that are a bit more abstract / freestyle in shape. With the purpose of breaking up the bigger "blank" in landmark shapes with the traditional shape.
Simple line illustration, due to the size being a bit smaller it's shows just the most important details, like the clock / banner / stairs and window ornaments etc.
For burned down places, maybe it's better to show fire behind it. This way people won't start looking and searching for the identical building as it doesn't exist anymore.
Zoomed out it can look something like this, the only con with a illustration is that it hides streets. As the route goes below the illustration here it's not a problem, but layout wise for some places it might be harder to find them.
